Brush Dump Information

The Brush Dump is located behind the Sterling Police Department on George Peeso Lane and is open during the Spring and Fall for Sterling residents.

Note: Leaves and other yard waste is prohibited from landfills and incinerators in Massachusetts and cannot be disposed of with your household trash.  Residents are encouraged to consider home composting of this material or dispose of yard waste at the brush dump.

Spring 2024 Brush Dump will be open on the following Saturdays, 8am-12 pm - April 13th, 20th, 27th and May 4th, 11th, 18th.

Brush Dump Regulations:

  • Use is limited to Sterling residents.  Please be prepared to show proof of residency to utilize the site. 
  • Leaving of yard waste at the gates of the site after hours is considered illegal dumping and is punishable by a fine. Residents can bring up to 2" sticks/branches, leaves and grass clippings.
  • Home composting is encouraged.
  • Biodegradable paper bags are acceptable for disposal. All plastic trash bags must be emptied and removed from the site by the resident.

Materials Not Permitted

  • Yard waste from commercial sources 
  • Material other than yard waste is strictly forbidden.
  • Brush/branches over 2 inches in diameter.
  • Fence posts and lumber  
  • Tree stumps of any kind or size 
  • Poison ivy, oak, sumac or other harmful plants
