How do I apply for a Firearms Permit?

FIRST TIME APPLICANT

for a License to Carry Firearms (LTC)

or Firearms Identification Card (FID)

What do I do?

1. Take a Massachusetts State Certified Basic Firearms Safety Course.

2. Download a Massachusetts Resident LTC/FID/Machine Gun Application here: Firearms Permit Application

3. Fill out application in its entirety.

4. Contact Dawn L. Metcalf, Sterling Police Department at 978-422-7331 to schedule an appointment.Appointments are conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

5. Bring ALL of your information with you to the scheduled appointment.

      DO NOT drop it off or mail any of your information before your appointment.

6. You will need the following at your appointment:

Completed application

Photocopy of your Basic Firearms Safety Course certificate

Check for $100.00 made out to the TOWN OF STERLING

Must be a current resident of Sterling or a Sterling business owner

RENEWING
