Mandatory Water Ban May 1st – September 30th

Mandatory Water Ban is in effect from May 1st through September 30th between the hours of 9am – 5pm. In accordance with the requirements of the Water Management Act Permit issued by the Department of Environmental Protection the Town is required to enact a Mandatory Water Ban. The ban restricts daily “nonessential” outdoor water use from public water sources. This is an Odd/Even water ban. All use of automatic irrigation systems and any type of lawn sprinkler shall comply with the Odd/Even watering schedule. Meaning properties with even numbered street addresses will be allowed the use of irrigation systems and sprinklers on even numbered calendar days outside the hours of 9am – 5pm. Likewise properties with odd numbered street addresses will be allowed the use of irrigation systems and sprinklers on odd numbered calendar days outside the hours of 9am – 5pm. The use of sprinklers, automatic or other is prohibited between the hours of 9am – 5pm on ALL DAYS. Handheld watering of vegetable and flower gardens with the use of a hose is unrestricted and may be performed on any day or time. Please refer to the Town of Sterling’s website for more information of what is or isn’t allowed under the Water Use Restriction or call the Department of Public Works with any questions at 978-422-6767. Thank You in advance for your cooperation.
