VOTE BY MAIL  No excuse vote by mail is available upon written request from the voter.  The application must be received by the Clerk's Office the 5th business day before the election.    You may vote at the Town Clerk's Office, USPS, or the drop box in front of the Butterick Building.  All ballots must be received by the close of polls.  Mail-in Ballots may not be delivered to the polls.

 

ABSENTEE BALLOTS deadline to request by mail is 5pm on the 5th business day before an election. An application for a ballot must be completed with the Town Clerk's Office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in person is 12 noon the DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION.  If the election falls on a Monday, the deadline is the previous Friday at 12 noon.   You may vote at the Town Clerk's Office, USPS, or the drop box in front of the Butterick Building.  All ballots must be received by the close of polls.  Absentee Ballots may not be delivered to the polls.

Voting for Military and Overseas U.S. Citizens If you are a Massachusetts citizen, you have the right to vote in all elections, even if you are deployed, stationed outside the Commonwealth, or residing overseas. Military voters, dependent family members of military voters, and overseas citizens are protected by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), a federal law which guarantees your voting rights. If you are a military or overseas voter, you are exempt from voter registration requirements in Massachusetts. In order to get your ballot, you simply need to submit an absentee ballot application.

Town Elections are held annually.  Annual Town Meeting will be held at 6:30pm on the first Monday in May, and the Annual Town Election will be held the second Monday in May.  Elected positions in the Town of Sterling are: Select Board, Board of Assessors, Board of Health, DPW Board, Sterling Municipal Light Board, Sterling Housing Authority, Library Board of Trustees, Planning Board, representatives to the Wachusett Regional School Committee, Constables and the Moderator. Terms could be 1 year, 3 years or 5 years.
