Rubbish Rules And Reglations

  1. The collection is limited to residential solid waste from single-family and multiple-family dwellings.
  2. The collection is to be made once a week at each household.
  3. Residential solid waste is to be put into a plastic bag, tied and may be placed in a container which is to be placed within five feet of the curb, but off the roadway on the scheduled collection day. Bagged trash may be placed in barrels to prevent animals from ripping it up but no loose trash shall be emptied from barrel.
  4. Owners or designated agents shall not place waste at the curb on any day except the collection day for their area.  Waste should not to be placed at the curb before 6:00 a.m. but MUST BE OUT BY 7:00 a.m.
  5. If there is a cancellation due to severe weather or a holiday(see schedule) then all collections that week will be pushed back one day with Friday’s collection taking place on Saturday.
  6. The weight of each bag, bundle or individual item Shall Not Exceed 30 Pounds Or It May Not Be Picked Up.
  7. No more than 3 – 30 gallon trash bags will be picked up at each household per week. (or an equivalent volume of smaller bags).
  8. No residential solid waste will be removed from inside houses, garages or any enclosures.
  9. Nothing of value shall be placed at or near the collection point for household solid waste.
  10. It is the owner’s or designated agent’s responsibility to maintain safe and sanitary conditions at the collection point.
  11. No collection of bulky material such as mattresses, furniture, lumber, tree limbs, stoves, refrigerators, large non-combustibles, or building and/or demolition debris will be made.
  12. No collection of explosives, dead animals, or hazardous materials (such as but not limited to car batteries, lithium and nicad batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermometers and thermostats) will be made.
  13. The Town may refuse to collect residential waste if the following Conditions exist:
    1. Inappropriate receptacle
    2. Dangerous dogs on the premises
    3. Unsatisfactory location of solid waste
    4. Bag exceeding the 30 pound limit
    5. Trash not in plastic bags

Items banned from solid waste landfills

Please bring these items to the Recycling Center: Lead acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, tires, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes washers, dryers, stoves, hot water heaters, microwaves, metal food cans or containers (including aluminum), glass bottles and jars, narrow necked plastic containers, newspaper, junk mail, cardboard, TV’s and computer monitors.

Important – Please Note

If the men/women operating the trash collection truck see that a bag contains recyclable materials they may leave the entire bag at the curb and it is the homeowners responsibility to properly dispose of the recyclables at the recycling center or through the town’s curbside recycling program.

If the trash collector suspects that a bag may contain recyclable materials they may open it to confirm their suspicions. If recyclable materials are found they may leave the bag at the curb. If it is necessary to open a bag and then leave it, they will make every effort to make sure the contents of the bag do not spill out onto the ground after they leave.
