Flu Season is upon us and it looks this year will be a tough one.  Flu can spread easily from person to person and should be taken seriously.  The single best way to protect yourself from getting sick is by getting vaccinated - even if you got the flu shot last year. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older receive a flu vaccine every year.  And there are other simple things you can do to help prevent getting infected and to reduce the chances of spreading it to others.

What to do if you or a family member gets the Flu?  The MA Department of Public Health has published a brochure called "Flu: What You Can Do".  It is available here for download and in the Town Hall in printed form. Visit the Commonwealth's Department of Public Health site on the flu at www.mass.gov/flu.  And take these simple precautions:

  • Get vaccinated against the seasonal flu every year.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.  Wash your hands afterwards.
  • If you get sick, stay at home until you are fever-free (a temperature under 100.4 degrees F.)  for at least 24-hours.  Remember, you must take your temperature when you are free from fever-reducing medication.
