Sterling Animal Control
Sterling's ACOs work out of the Sterling Police Department and are certified Animal Control Officers through the Animal Control Officers Association of Massachusetts (ACOAM). The ACO's maintain memberships in ACOAM and the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA) and obtain training through organizations such as ACOAM, NACA, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), MSPCA, International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, Inc (IAABC), and Paws N Claws to name a few. The ACO's must complete 8 Continuing Education Credits (CEU's) yearly.
The ACO is in the office 16 hours a week and remains on-call for urgent or emergent matters that arise. The ACO can be reached through Dispatch at the Sterling Police Department (978-422-7331), through 911 in an emergency, or by email for non-urgent and non-time sensitive matters (animalcontrol@sterling-ma.gov).
