The Sterling Municipal Light Department (SMLD), est. in 1911 with 3600 customers, 160 miles of distribution lines, and a dual feed 115/13.8KV, 44MVA substation, seeks General Manager to manage all activities including customer service, accounting, finance, development and community relations.  The General Manager is responsible for the direction, planning, organization, supervision, staffing and control of the SMLD.  Minimum requirements are 5 years experience in utility management (electrical distribution systems, generation, and substations) with a college degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Business Administration or Communications Technology.

Under the direction and control of a 3-member Light Board, the Manager has full charge of the operation and management of the SMLD including (but not limited to) operations, engineering and administration.  The candidate must be able to manage relationships between the utility and its board of directors, its employees, the community, and local government.

The Manager develops the SMLD’s budget, long-term plans, goals, all power sales and power purchase agreements and contracts.  The Manager directs the staff, maintains all accounts, oversees the distribution of electricity, purchasing and electricity rates.

The Manager oversees the system design, upgrades, maintenance, testing, load flow, switching, generation, substation, and enforces appropriate government regulations.  Prior experience with NERC, NPCC, NEPOOL, ISONE, NECPUC, NYPA, FERC, DPU, DOER, DEP, collective bargaining, and State and Federal laws is highly preferred.
