As of noontime today the National Weather Service reports that Hurricane Earl is now a Category 3 hurricane. Earl currently has maximum sustained winds of 125mph. Earl’s projected path now brings it between Nantucket and 100 miles SE from late Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning potentially as a Category 2-3 storm (note: the margin for error can be 200 miles).

Currently the impact to Sterling as it passes through our area would be winds with gusts of up to 35 MPH and rainfall from Friday afternoon (heaviest between noon & midnight) with 1” - 2” expected.  Residents are urged to prepare for potential shifts in the storm by preparing themselves with supplies of food, water, batteries for flashlights and battery operated radios in the case of power outages.  Residents may also remain informed by referencing the following websites for additional information:
