Public Health Emergency Volunteers Wanted
Public Health Emergency Volunteers Meeting

In the event of an infectious disease outbreak or other public health emergency, the Sterling Board of Health has developed plans to care for the entire population of Sterling within 48 hours at what is known as an Emergency Dispensing Site (EDS).  The Town has been working on the plans for the Emergency Dispensing Site for the past year.  We will need hundreds of volunteers, both medical and non-medical, to successfully execute the plan.

The Town of Sterling is organizing our public health volunteers and preparing them for activation in town.

An informational meeting has been scheduled to discuss how people can assist during a public health emergency in town.  We will discuss and entertain questions about the following:
  • Our specific needs pertaining to the H1N1 (swine) Flu pandemic and vaccination efforts
  • Our long-term need to identify and prepare volunteers to staff an Emergency Dispensing Site
  • Our long-term need to identify and prepare volunteers to help staff a shelter like was established in last year’s ice storm.
The meeting will be held:

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 7:00 pm

At the Senior Center in the basement of the Butterick Municipal Building

Interested residents, please respond with the number of people attending to Kathie Nickerson by email (preferred method) at knickerson@sterling-ma.gov or by phone at 978-422-8111 ext. 2305.
