Senior Tax Work Off Program
If you are over 60, own and live in a home in Sterling, you are eligible to join the Senior Tax Work Off Program.  Under the program, participating taxpayers volunteer their services to the town in exchange for a reduction in their tax bills, up to $1000.00 a year.  You will receive hourly credit of $8.00 an hour for work performed.

The amount of the property tax reduction earned by the taxpayer under this program is not considered income or wages for purposes of state income tax withholding.  The IRS has ruled that the abatement amount is included in the taxpayer's gross income for federal income tax.

Only 15 people are accepted each year.

You must fill out an application and return it to the Council on Aging office in order to be considered.  There is currently a waiting list.
